NOW AVAILABLE: Pay Equity Standards for all arts non-profits! -

The Pay Equity Standards are currently open for 2024 certification!

The Pay Equity Standards are a rubric and public symbol for equitable pay practices within a theatre company.

Designed as a checklist, the Pay Equity Standards lay out a path to establishing equitable pay using a three-pronged approach to pay equity: Transparency, Working Conditions, and Accountability. The program was launched in January 2022.

Inspired by the organic and fair trade food labels, theater companies that opt in and meet all certification requirements will be granted use of the Pay Equity Standards badge. The recognizable badge will allow audience members to make informed consumption choices and support art that is made in a way that aligns with their values. Theater workers can make decisions on where to seek employment based on which organizations have become certified. Certification may also be used in grant proposals and in discussions with funders to demonstrate that their funds are going to organizations that center equity.

Certified organizations may retain use of the dated Pay Equity Standards badge they receive from On Our Team. Organizations certified by the Pay Equity Standards may display the badge on the company’s website, marketing materials, social media, and job posts.

Certified organizations may elect to recertify to gain use of an updated badge to show their community that their policies remain in compliance. Organizations may elect to certify only once, or recertify every year or on a schedule that works for them, i.e. every 3 years, etc.

Why is Pay Equity important?

Centering pay equity is necessary to an organization’s diversity, equity, inclusion, and access actions. Check out our resource list to learn more about pay equity.
